Feelings come in waves. You can’t control how big or strong they are, but you can control how you handle them and which ones you choose to surf.
So how do we choose which wave of emotions to surf? How do we handle big overwhelming feelings?
Well- the first step is: to let the feelings be feelings. When you’re paddling out, you lose all control of your surroundings but you have full control of how you feel about it. Just like in life, you have no control over how other people react, what’s going to happen in the day, or the frustrations of the day, but how you let yourself feel about it is completely up to you. So let yourself feel, allow yourself to be in control of the one thing you have control over. Because the waves do keep coming, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t strong enough to surf them.
